10-08-01 Special Meeting

LODI TOWNSHIP

SPECIAL MEETING

OCTOBER 8, 2001

LODI TOWNSHIP HALL

OPEN MEETING

Lodi Township Board of Trustees meeting opened with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

ATTENDANCE

Present:  Godek, Masters, Foley, Crowner, Lindemann, Rentschler and Solowczuk, Attorney O’Jack, and 6 members of the First Unitarian Universalist Church board, their pastor and their attorney.

This meeting was called at the request of the First Unitarian Universalist Church with freeform discussion.

Moved Masters, second Crowner to go into closed session at 8:50 p.m.  Carried

Moved Foley, second Masters to return to open session at 9:10 p.m.

Mr. Phillips stated that the church board in attendance needed to consult with the rest of the church board and give some thought to some of the things suggested.

They would like to give us a date certain and are anticipating that in no more than 30 days they will have some sort of a written proposal that will be made through the attorney.  After they submit that proposal they would like to meet again with the township board to discuss the proposal.

They were asked whether they could get plans and information in by November 2 for the next board meeting.  If possible, they will save the cost of calling a special board meeting and saving them the $1,000 cost of a special meeting.

Moved Foley, second asters to authorize Mr. O’Jack to request a 3 month extension for the federal court case, if not received to start discovery immediately for the federal court case.  The church must file a proposal with a completion date by November 2, 2001.  Carried.

Mr. O’Jack and Mr. Phillips will meet on October 9, 2001 to finalize details on the federal case and requesting an extension.

Moved Rentschler, second Foley to adjourn at 9:15 p.m.  Carried.

Elaine E. Masters

Clerk, Lodi Township

Closed session minutes10-8-01

The attorneys set up discovery period, for the federal court case with First Unitarian Universalist Church.

If we were to agree to anything, they would have to drop state case and would want it to happen in the federal court.

Health permit on the temporary buildings expires in 2003.

Jesse suggested we try and push the federal case back 3 months, give them 1 month for plan B to be presented to the township and a final date of completion.

They should be smart enough that we won’t accept 5 years.  Trailers must be out by date of completion of plan.

Plans to be filed by November 2, 2001 with a final date or they will need to pay for a special board meeting.

Returned to open session at 9:10 p.m.

Please initial for approval
