Thinking of building or remodeling?
Township zoning compliance is required before Washtenaw County Building
Department (WCBD) will issue a building permit.
To receive township zoning compliance you will need:
- An approved driveway permit from Washtenaw County Road Commission
(WCRC) 761-1500.
- A grading waiver/permit from Washtenaw County Soil Erosion &
Sediment Control (WCSESC) 222-3900.
- 3 copies of blueprints for project and 3 copies of site plan.
Site plan needs to show the location of the project on the parcel and
indicate the distance from the structure to all property lines. As well
as placement of septic and well.
- Set up a meeting with township zoning inspector (Bill Lindemann)
for township approval. Call the zoning inspector, Bill
Lindemann, at (cell) 734-320-4421 for an appointment. There will be a
$25 charge for issuing an address and $50 charge for zoning compliance
for everything other than a home. Zoning compliance for a home is
$100.
Storage Building

Over the counter building permitsTo provide better
customer service, the Department of Environment and Infrastructure
Services (County Health and Building Departments) are establishing
same-day over the counter building plan review and permit issuance for
minor projects. Stop in their office on any Thursday with all the
appropriate paperwork. Permits will be issued on a first come, first
served basis. Your patience is appreciated. NO commercial properties
will be included in this service.
- This service is available only on Thursdays only from 8:30a.m. -
11:30a.m. and 1:00p.m. - 3:30p.m. at the Western Washtenaw County
Service Center, 705 N. Zeeb Road. Applications received after 3:00p.m.
may not be ready to issue until the following morning, due to time
constraints. CSR can mail out permit, if check is left at time of
application. It may take 7-10 days for issuance of a permit for a
house.
- "Minor projects" (estimated cost under $20,000) include: decks,
detached garages, pole barns, pools and sheds.
- If the project is a pool, Environmental Health approval (and
possibly Soil Erosion approval) may be required. If so, these must be
obtained prior to your application to the Building Inspection
Program.
- Approval from your Township Zoning Official (Bill Lindemann,
320-4421) and possibly Soil Erosion must be done ahead of
time.
- Fees must be paid at the time of issuance.
- Plan submittal information sheet is available. Please read it
carefully.
- If paperwork is incomplete for any reason, the application will
not be accepted.
